Removing the handguard from the rifle, can be done with a couple of small flat blade screw drivers. I cracked a wooden handguard trying to put the clip on. Bought another wooden handguard from Fulton and the clip tool. Here are a few suggestions:

Saw guys break butt plates (again, just going overboard on slamming the butt down on the pavement). Never saw/heard of anyone breaking a GI handguard. When installing a wood handguard, it is best to fit it to the rifle without the clip in place. Once you are content with the clearances, to include the oprod, use the proper tool to install the clip onto the handguard. I'm getting ready to start on a wooden stock on my m1a socom. I'm going to cut out the section for the scout mount and apply high heat epoxy coat under the handguard to keep it from cracking. will also reinforce it with fiberglass and then apply a 2nd epoxy coat followed by a heat foil 1mm from the epoxy to dissapate the heat.
