Dipmeter - The dipmeter is a tool with arms arranged radially around a central mandrel with pads pressed against the borehole wall by a spring mechanism. Each pad measures the microresistivity of the formation. By correlating a microresistivity feature across the borehole, a plane can be defined and its dip and strike computed.

In particular, dipmeter data are composed of a dip set and four conductivity logs (i.e., FC1~FC4). The dip set includes dip angles and dip directions of layers. Dipmeter data can identify layers which are thinner than 0.01 m (Allaud and Ringot, 1969; Delhomme et al., 1988). Significant changes on FCs coincide with the boundaries of interlayers. The Dipmeter Advisor system is an attempt at addressing this problem by applying a systematic set of guidelines and rules for dipmeter interpretation, in combination with additional knowledge from other open-hole logs and the interpreter.
